The small fan on my Shuttle kt266a motherboard sounds like a fricken delta fan:( Their definitely must be something wrong with it......it's gotten worse every day. A few days ago it used to be ultra quiet but very seldomly it would become louder for a minute or two, then die down. I popped off the case while the computer was running, and when it became louder I couldn't notice any increase or decrease in the fan speed, would be pretty hard to tell anyway though. Today it's progressed to bring me a constant headache, it remains about as loud as my two case fans now:( Every ten seconds or so the sound will increase until it sounds like a Delta for a few seconds then die down a little, it's VERY annoying. Another very strange thing that happened is that my computer automatically rebooted for no reason whatsoever today. Once while I was dialing my ISP and another time while I was installing a game. Both of those times the fan was acting up a little more than usual.........I find it hard to believe that this fan is somehow involved, because wouldn't the motherboard be fine and dandy without this fan? It just strikes me because my computer never rebooted like that before, and both times it did it the fan was acting up more than usual....very freaky indeed. Could it be my power supply is going bad or something? My video card has been unstable too, no matter which drivers I used for my Leadtek Geforce3 Ti200, I did a reformat and it had no effect, still get crash to desktop in games and "failure to initialize 3d accelerator" in 3Dmark. Anyone ever experience this before or have any suggestions? TIA.

I have the same mobo. My fan is noisy after bootup, for a couple minutes, then it quiets down. It's a horrible meeeeehhh, noise. It only started doing this a couple days ago...

Is your system stable though? My fan was okay for the first week or so, then it started getting louder and louder each day:( I got Giants free with my hardware so I was playing that to test out my video card. I didn't get any crashes after hours and hours of playing. Then, I started getting crash to desktops, and I hadn't changed drivers, so I grabbed 3dmark2001 to investigate. I was lucky to get through the whole benchmark without getting that "failure to initialize 3d accelerator" error. If I recall correctly, the fan was just starting to act peculiar at that time too. Just a little fishy if you ask me.

Mine got loud as well so i just took it off. Theres enough air coming off the fan on my Alpha 8045 to cool the chipset anyway.

Could it be possible that the fan is not properly installed and becomes jarred more and more as time goes by, resulting in it getting so loud? I'm thinking it might be so ineffective since it's not installed properly that it could be causing my instability maybe? I'm grasping at straws here, trying to find out why my system is unstable:(
