Nortel vs Netgear

I just replaced my netgear fvs-318 with a smc 7008abr and my connection speeds went from 2.7m up and 570k down to 4.5 and 930.That netgear was so bad that i threw it out the window and the dog won't even play with it.
I have a chance to pick up a couple of used, low hours, Nortel Contivity 100 routers for a real good price. Anyone want to guess if I will see any further speed increase? Is anyone here familiar with these who would offer up some setup advice. These are big profesional type units, either they have a lot of capability or maybe they just made things larger back when they were new-2001 !

If you need a hand configuring the 100 let me know I support those on a daily bases. The failure rate i see is high though so keep a few spare.

ive opened up a few of those to install more RAM into them. if i recall correctly, they need pc100 and can only handle up to 64mb or so. since theyre CF based, you can also install different OS's onto them.

Well I have connected both of the Nortel's from an old p3 box and my cable modem. One of them seems towork ok tho when I think I'm finished configuring it the 2nd light still glows orange.
The second unit fires up but the 7 port lan switch has no activity. The p3 box reports it as cable disconnected; yes I've tried other cable's,ports and computers. Furthermore, this Nortel came with an ISDN modem installed which I cannot use.I put in a netgear 311 nic in its place as eth3 but cannot figure out how to get the nortel to reconise it or load any drivers.
No wonder you guys that work on this stuff every day make the big bucks.

Cheap=Yes ! Actually I just grabbed a third unit on e-bay for less than $25 shipped.Guess it'll be the best 2 out of 3 with plenty of spare parts. And this next one has the eth3 bios so I can use that to replace the isdn bios on one of my existing units. If I can ever get these things to work that is.
For what I've spent so far I could have bought a new linksys.
