Forget the "fat Joes" who have been living it up; what am I supposed to do. I'm a college student powered by mostly loans and scholarships, so I'm going to leave with debt, and what for? A useless piece of paper? What is this "loser" supposed to do, without a job, watching the boomers retire and suck up all the money(401K, pension, SS) with them?
Uh, get a job making sh!tty wages and work your way up just like everyone else. The false tech boom is gone, you won't -ever- be rich.
Deal with the fact you you will have to bust your ass to make a living.

The boomers put in their time and money into the system, they deserve to get it back now. College kids like you havn't really put much in, so don't expect much out at this time.

Call Centers in India? What about the Language Barrier?

Customer " I have a problem with the LCD on my Laptop"

Tech "Birdie Num Num" 😕

... ok, that's a stupid statement, and a racist one at that.

most people in india learn english in schools these days. accent aside, everytime you think you're coming across an indian who is ignoring your problem and asking you dumb questions you think are not related to the problem, please realize that it is not their fault, but the company's fault. He might be able to tell you exactly what the problem is but is forbidden by the hiring company to do so. they have a computer program with yes/no questions that they are REQUIRED to go through and will get fired if they don't go through it. they have a little leeway to deviate from what's on screen, but not that much.
Fsck you, I never mentioned race. It might be a Culturally insensitive statement and it might be ignorant but it isn't racist. Frankly I prefer to deal with Americans Tech's who speak English as a first language or at least understand the nuances of American English (as bastardized as it is. I understand the Global Economy and the need to economize when it comes to manufaturing a product but I truly believe that Cstomer Service really takes a hit when you have Tech's who don't speak English as a first language trying to explain and solve problems that American Consumers may have. Hell American Tech's often have problems trying to explain how to solve a problem to clueless End Users

sorry for the "racist" comment, i'll change it.

it just pisses me off when people assume that quality of customer service goes down when it is exported abroad. even if the call centers are located here, the techs on the other end would still be forced to go through the computer menu, and the only difference would be the accent. and if in fact the call centers were located over here, since management would want to pay low wages, you can bet that it would be manned (and womanned) by immigrants with only a basic knowledge of technology. i'd still have to put up with an accent. i'd much rather put up with an accent and pay cheaper prices than just put up with an accent and pay a higher price.

i really dont understand why all of you (on a tech forum) are calling up customer service so often though. i've had to call them twice before, and that was a pleasant enough experience.

optoman: my rebate calls have always been answered by hispanics, never an indian.

Don't these companies realize that if they outsource they end up fvcking up the economy? We here lose jobs, don't buy their products, don't need their service.

Ha HA. You see, companies now don't care about the economy! They only care about their bottom line and stock price.

Um, isn't that how that whole "capitalism" thing is supposed to work?

Cool. I don't believe that race makes one person better than another. If one knows his/her sh!t then what does it matter what race they are? I'm not saying that a Tech from India can't be as good if not better than someone from California or Texas, I'm just questioning the language barrier. Hell some of the best minds in Computer Technology originally came from India. Our main man Anand parents are from India and Iran and nobody questions his intelligence, competence or work ethic. Actually it seems the work ethic his folks installed in him actually offset the cancer of self entitlement that seems to have inflicted much of todays youth.

As long as the consumers want the lowest price for their products or services, companies will move oversea, or down south to Mexico. In the end, it's up the consumers if they want their job to stay in the US or not. The blue collar workers in the US have suffered for a long time. Too many US companies want cheap labor. Now it's the white collar folks with their brand new Audis and BMWs know how it feels. The funny things is, a lot of foreign companies are investing in America, look at BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Toyota, Nissan etc. A lot of these cars are designed and built in the US specifically for big fat Americans.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not asking for a millionaire .com job, I'm just looking at my future, and seeing if there's any hope of getting a job that's on par with what others with BS degrees in science fields get(and have gotten in the past). I mean, isn't that what a college degree is for, so that you have the skills to start a step higher? Lord knows that with a BS, I wouldn't be able to get a sh!tty job if I tried; I know reading the different job boards, a lot of people are having issues with being "overqualified".

As for the boomers, I agree they deserve it, but I'm just making a point. Here my generation stands, holding the purse strings on a rapidly emptying bag, and we have to make sure there's enough in there to pay SS, all the while we can't seem to even find good jobs these days. How is generation Y supposed to support the past(our parents) and the future(our children), while we can't even support the present(ourselves)?

You will most likely hear this often when you call nortel customer service:

Hi,

I'm almost never one to wish ill on a person but if you ever lose your job and get stuck in a rut, I'll have no sympathy for a man size prick like you. One day, you too will lose your job in the worst of times, and despite being educated and qualified, wonder how it's even possible to make it in life.

In case you didn't know.. Nortel is a Canadian company.. so if anyone the Canadian should be whining....
it's all just a big ploy to increase immigration so that the tunduri chicken market in toronto can grow....
yummay.. can't wait.
