Normal idle temps for a 680?

My eVGA stock hovers around 60 degrees C with the fan at 35%. This seems a bit high to me.

What's anyone elses doing?

Fractal Designs R3 so yes it's insulated but cpu is at 40 degrees C and motherboard is at 31 degrees C.

Only noticed it as I was gonna to overclock it, noticed the temps at stock and thought wtf!

Think I can vaguely hear it, can certainly hear it spin up under load so I think it's being correctly reported as 35%.

I've got two case fans running at their minimum speed but I've tried them going full tilt and it doesn't seem to make much difference.
 
Case fans aren't going to do a thing (except slightly change ambient of course) to a reference 680. It's completely ducted off and the only air it gets is going to be what the blower provides.
 
Around 40C is normal. However I do get 55-60C sometimes like you. It happens when the card cant idle due to some crappy flash on a website. Try check the GPU clocks to see if it idles or not.

After some messing about it seems it's due to running 3 monitors. I've got two 19in monitors at 1280x1024 and one 24in running at 1920x1080.
Running just one or two monitors the core clock stays at 324mhz and the memory also stays at 324mhz.
Run a third monitor and the core clock raises to 550mhz and the memory leaps all the way to 3000mhz.
 
It happens when you connect more than one monitor with different timings/resolution.

Use MDPS in Nvidia Inspector to force the lowest power state with all three monitors connected.

Ah nice one I'll check it out. It was fine with 2 monitors. Just adding a third that was the problem.

As long as the monitors have the same resolution/frequency, the card goes into the lowest power state, but the moment you connect one that's different, it doesn't.

Download NV Inspector, and right click on Show Overclocking, click MDPS. Have it start up with Windows, and set your VPU and 3D clock triggers depending on how you like it, whether by GPU/VPU usage threshold or by process running.
