Normal for property management to request ID/financial docs before showing the place?

Never went through the rental process before. I would think they'll show you the place first to see if you like it before requesting you to fill out the application and provide ID/financial info. I just called a property management company about a house and they want an application, ID and financial info before they'll even schedule a showing.

I don't really mind but just feel a little uncomfortable giving them all this info and then not even going forward with the house.

Showing ID makes sense. I'd never pay a fee just to look at a house, but if they aren't charging you then it might be OK.

For this apartment they showed it to me before asking for the application.

I just signed a lease on a new apartment the other day and was shown the place with no ID or anything. I've never shown ID to see a place but when I was in the office filling out the application, I noticed that they did have a sign saying it was policy to check ID before showing a place. When I signed the lease, they did make a copy of a check stub though...

Apparently they have got more than a few assholes who wanna check out places but could never afford it.
I admit I've done that once or twice, but that was back when I had a good job and knew I could get a house eventually, just not right that minute.
