normal for my CRT monitor to go crazy when my cell phone rings?

i own NEC fp2141sb monitor and i keep my phone on or near my desk and if its too close to the monitor the screen has waves going through it that you only notice when reading text. when my phone actually rings the screen goes crazy and lots of waves/distortion occur. is this normal? i'd put it somehwere else but this is the only place i get reception in my house. any ideas

I've never heard of such a thing... is moving your desk an option?

its really not that big of a deal i just wanted to make sure its not damaging my screen. ive been keeping my cell phone on my window sill and that seems to work.

same thing happens when my blackberry updates. Whether near the crt monitor or tv.

O, and u can hear the noise if u leave the blackberry near powered on speakers...

ive heard of it but often ive heard problems with a sound card and cellphone makes werd noise in speakers before its going to ring.

I see that everytime my 2.4 Ghz wireless phone rings. But the interference stops as soon as I pick up the phone. You will just have to live with the short and temporary interference unless you can move the phone away from the monitor.

Let me guess, GSM phone? (T-Mobile, AT&T, Cingular, etc.)

Very much normal, don't worry about it. Consider it an advanced warning system for your phone.

Whats GSM stand for? I've noticed the same thing with my gf's cingular cellie. Monitor/TV/Radio will get distorted prior to a call. Kinda cool, really.

From a country that only uses GSM, yes, quite normal and havent seen it damage anything, though your not allowed to have a turned on phone in intensive care units.
