Normal for LCD monitors???

I just received my new LCD monitor. It's the Samsung 2443BW. I don't think it has a top of the line panel and I think it has a TN panel...not sure what that is though.

My question is this. When I'm sitting in front of my monitor and I'm eye level at center, the upper part of the screen appears darker and the lower part of the screen appears lighter. But when I stand up the upper part appears lighter.

Plus when I flood my screen with one color (Ex: red), I notice that near the corners it appears darker and when I flood the screen black at the bottom center it appears lighter.

Are these color changes normal for LCD's.

I thought this was something called banding or gradiation but I saw images of both of these things on the net and it's not what I have.

Thanks for your help.

they are normal for only for TN panels ... congratulations, you discovered why TNs are cheap.

first thing is bad viewing angle that TN have

second thing is backlight, that is the stuff that makes light come out of LCD.

Thanks for the help. I think it's backlight bleeding that I might be seeing.

Just as a FYI, even if you have a "higher quality" screen such as a SIPS or *PA, you may still notice colors changing, just not to the degree that happens with "cheap" tn panels.

The bleeding isn't too bad. And I'm only using my monitor for computer work and maybe a few games now and then. I don't watch movies or anything HD like that. For the price I paid and the functionality of this monitor I'm pretty satisfied. And no dead or stuck pixels yet too.

Plus this monitor has a dynamic contrast ratio of 20,000:1. When I use this mode the black screen is totally black. Not too bad.
