Just now while I was browsing the forums, my screen flickered to a solid purple tint for a couple seconds.....then did it again a minute later :(. It's working fine now, though.

It's a 19" Digital Research Technologies CRT that I've had since 1998.

Temporary glitch, or is it fubared?

If it's dying, what's a good 19" LCD? Are there any that support 1600x1200 that don't cost a fortune?

no 19" lcd supports 1600x1200, which is retarded since 15" notebook lcds do.

$500 or less (wait for a good deal)

I just looked around a bit...and most of the good coupons seem to have expired just within the last week or so :|. Figures. Ah well, I guess I'll deal with either the purple screen or the blurry 15" POS (shudder) I have collecting dust as a "spare" until the prices drop again.

That would be nice....but my 19" CRT is wedged under the hutch of my desk right now as it is. I doubt it would fit nicely. Plus, $860 is a little rich for my blood :Q

it may be a loose connection with the cord, one of my friends had this problem but it stayed purple unless he propped the signal cord coming into the back of the monitor wiht something.

Nothing like percussive maitenence for those to cheap to have it fixed, or too ignorant to fix it.

I think you may be right. I could hardly see through the tears of laughter as I was posting it. Damn, I just crack myself up.

Or...maybe it could be that it's a 7 year old CRT that's been moved around at least 10x in that 7 years, survived 4.5 years of college, and been turned on 90% of that time?

Honestly, if you have nothing constructive to say, please stay out of my thread, as you are not wanted in it. Thanks.

To everyone that's actually helping, thank you. It's only doing it every once in a while right now and then going back to normal, but I expect that will probably get worse.

I tried jiggling the cord - both at the back of the monitor and at the PC, and it didn't flicker once :(. Bah, I was kind of hoping that was it.

Hopefully it holds up until I can find a good price on a decent FP.

I saw that one, plus a bunch of others...but the problem is, I've gotten used to having everything at 1600x1200. Lower resolutions bother me. I have to use a 17" FP at work, and everything seems too...big, and I don't have as much space as I'm used to. So, I'm only looking at screens that support 1600 x 1200 (or better). So far all I've found that supports that resolution in my price range is the Dell 2001FP or 2005FPW.

This monitor has lasted me 7 years, and I'll probably use whatever I get to replace it until that one dies. I'll end up being pissed at myself if I compromise on it :p

..if you haven't done it in awhile you might try blowing the dust and dust bunnies out of it..they attract alot of dust because of the high voltage..and it sometimes becomes conductive and plays hobb wit all the electronics..and vodoo.

Nothing wrong with compromise... get one now and another later! That should easily make up for realestate.

Why not just get another CRT. I haven't priced any lately, but I only paid $200.00 for my 19 incher 2 years ago.
