Yes, after seven years of faithful service, my good 19" monitor seems to be toast. The light turns green, which indicates it knows it's getting a signal, but the tube itself seems to be kaput. The OSD won't even come up. It didn't even give me any warning by acting funny beforehand. I was just playing Psychonauts this morning, then we went out to my friends house so I could work on my Beetle, and when I came back, it just wouldn't display an image.
🙁
So if any Omaha area ATers want to help me avoid the misery that is this handed-down hand-me-down 17" monitor, I would be forever in your debt.
I will miss the old monitor... it came with the first and only prebuilt PC I ever bought. I opted to downsize the HDD on that system (from 8GB to 6.4GB) and spend a little extra to upgrade my monitor from the 17" it would have come with otherwise, and it served me well.
So maybe I'll get a dust mask and smash the hell out of it with a hammer

You've had a 19" monitor for 7 years ? That's pretty good. Time to move up to a 24 or 30" now. 🙂

If it's a CRT, then it can't be called a good monitor. This is a blessing in disguise.

:disgust:

I'm sorry if this offends any CRT owners, but after going from high quality 21+" CRTs to nice Samsung LCDs, I will never go back.

specs?

/me loves my 900nf

It was branded Quantex, but the manual said it was a Hitachi. Can't recall any of the specs, but it did everything I ever asked. This stupid 17" won't even do 1280x1024 :|

It will probably come down to price for me. I just spent what could have been a monitor replacement fund on a PSP last week. But it's important to me that it refresh quickly enough to play games well.

Yeah, I'm going to miss this monitor when it dies.

It's a 17" CRT Compaq FS740, had it for 5 years now (got it late 1999 I believe). Color is still terrific (coming from a graphic designer, the prints on my Canon i9900 look a lot like the screen) and it's not making any whiney noises or anything.

Heh... that would be nice, but I'm not 100% sure this desk could support one. It's one of those Sauder deals that has been disassembled and re-assembled so I could move a number of times. The last time it didn't quite make it so I've got about 24 screws drilled into it to hold it together. I suppose I could add some supports...

The LCDs are lighter than a 19" CRT I'm sure... that was a CRT before, no ?

7 yrs isnt that long...before I got this Dell 2001FP, I had used the same 17" CRT for 8 years...and my dad used it for 4 or 5 before that!

It's still in my room sitting on my desk...unused now, but ready to serve...lol

My 19" is kinda weak. Can't complain though, only paid $30 for it and it's a solid monitor. What pisses me off is that somehow my 9800 Pro can't handle the 19" and 17" at the same time, so I can't even take advantage of my dual displays.

My Sony GDM-400PS 19" monitor died over the 4th of July weekend. I downloaded the service manual for it and think I know what is wrong but I ended up buying a 2405FPW instead of fixing it. I hate to throw it away, the picture on it was gorgeous so it is sitting in my garage until I decide what to do with it. 😕

I paid $120 for my NEC P1250+. It was made in 1999, but I suppose the trintron tube will hold up. Those damn shadow mask lines kinda get annoying occasionly though. This damn thing is so heavy, my next monitor is def. going to be an LCD.
