🙁 1987 Honda accord 5sp. Damn it, right when I say "I never had an issue with this car" the alternator craps out. Sucked that my battery drained while driving.

I was driving, and I noticed the lights going out one by one. First, one head light, then the next, then my stereo turns off, then the gauge lights go out, then turn signals stop working. So I pull into a nearby subdivision, and right when I start slowing down, the car turns off. Sucks because I have no cell phone. So my little brother, who was with me, saw a car park on their driveway, and ran over their and notified my older brother. He came, and we jumpstarted the car. I managed to drive back home, but right when I parked, the car turned off again.

The batter is perfectly fine, as it was tested, and there were no broken belts. Took it to a friend of mine who works at Midas and informed me the alternator was bad.

*cry* :'(

The good news is when ordering meat you'll have something you can bring along to show how big of a cut you want.

wtf...😵...go to auto store...plop down 100 bucks...fallow the instructions...any moron with a wrench can do it...pop off the belts...take old alt. off...new on one...put belts on...just make sure you tighten the belts before you crank it back up 😱

that sucks 🙁 that happened on my car a few months back. mechanic had me purchase a new battery then when that one died too, i went to a new mechanic who thought it was the belts. replaced the belts. car died again. found out it was the alternator. so i needed a new alternator and again new belts ;x

Replace it. They aren't that expensive and pretty easy to do yourself.
We have the winner...

Better yet go to a salvage yard or buy one off of ebay and save some serious money!

You can probably pick up a rebuilt alternator for pretty cheap ($40-60ish). If you have any mechanical inclination at all, you should have no trouble swapping an alternator. If the place you get it from allows it, take your old one there to get a core deposit.

IIRC on that model car, you've got to pull the CV joint to get to the alternator.

this isn't a V6 chevy truck.

So what? When the alternator went in my Subaru it cost me +/-$110.00 and took about 30 minutes to replace. Even on a transverse mounted engine I could see it being tough only if it is located in a spot where you have to get to it from underneath the car. On the other hand if PAB is correct about the CV joint then it sucks to be you.

Hondas absolutely SUCK to work on. I have owned THREE, so I know.

OTOH, things very rarely break on them...so I guess it works out.
