We use a proprietary software package at our company developed by a small company in the mid-west.
I just found out that the only support person there with half a clue (who I work with on almost a daily basis) just gave his 2 weeks. Now how am I going to get anything fixed?? DAMNIT~~!!!

🙁

Report to his boss that he is the only competent person there. If they don't try to keep him tell them they will lose your business.

Get his cell # and offer to pay him on the side if there's an emergency?

Hope the company can find someone else to support the product in the meantime. (They may have a developer or someone else that normally didn't take calls that will now have to take calls while a transition is underway... hence the above incompetent worker call may not be needed... but doesn't hurt to get your concerns out there).

It's a bit odd that you know he's leaving... I'd say it was unprofessional for him to tell you, but, based on your relationship he may have told you to be nice and not to try and use it as leverage against his current employer. I just doubt that.

Dang, that sucks.

THisd may work but when My customers called and said the same my boss started igonoring me.

I will have new job by june due to restructuring.

I did not want to move to chicago for what they were offering me so I am currently fielding offers and I will be making alot more.

It depends on the company but this could be your last hope.

Offer a significant raise in pay?

He's not our employee.

DID he tell you where he is going?

I have had offers from people to pay me to take their calls when the Regular support does not wirk.

I will be unable to depending on where I work/.

However I am keeping that door open 😉

Just out of curiosity, was the support guy named Brian? I have a friend that works for a small software company in Wisconsin that just gave his 2 weeks notice...there aren't that many software companies in the midwest. Maybe it's him, but it's a long shot.
