Isn't that glass glued to the screen?

I know on the S2 it's really glued on well and the chances of getting it off without breaking the screen are slim. I can't imagine it would look particularly good after you've glued a new glass on either.
That's what the heat gun is for. Melts the glue enough to loosen it without damaging the screen at all. (Unless someone were to be stupid and just apply heat in one area for too long.)

The actual screen is like a miniature laptop screen. You'd actually have to work at damaging it just pulling up the glass with the glue properly melted. The only way to damage it would be too much heat for too long on one spot (idiot move) or scratching it with a metal tool in the process of prying up the screen, in which case that'd be down to sheer impatience. The glue will give long before the other parts will under heat so there's no need for screen damaging force applied.

The glue is invisible under the replacement screen once reheated, and most of it is around the bezels anyway.

Its not like anyone would ever want to do this just for the heck of it but it sure as hell beats a shattered screen.

If you're even halfway handy, it's easier to fix than you might think.

I fixed an SGS3 with a severely shattered screen in about 20 minutes. Just used a heat gun ($15), replacement screen (about $15), screen protector, and some screen-repair tools ($3 kit off ebay) to lift up the broken screen.
Just curious, which replacement screen did you use? I assume quality varies like crazy.

I couldn't find the exact Amazon seller I bought through, but it was similar to this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy...lacement+glass

The claim was the same, that it was an "original" replacement.

I was also weary that the quality probably varies greatly, so I paid $15 for the screen, rather than the $6-$8 I've seen with cheaper eBay sellers. I was careful to read through the user reviews and found no one complaining that the glass was thicker or different from the original.

I have to say, the screen I used looked to me identical to the original- same exact color, same quality. When I finished, I put the fixed phone next to my own SGS3 (I fixed a friend's phone) and I couldn't really see any difference. The only real difference was related to an area where the bezel was scratched from the drop that broke the glass, but not the look of the replacement glass.

I feel your pain. Dropped my HTC Trophy 2 weeks ago. Still works, but it's relegated to alarm clock duty now.

It was a good and durable phone, really. It's funny how you can drop a phone 100x with no damage, but that one time it lands at the wrong angle...

Luckily I was getting a new phone, anyway. Love my HTC One. I learned my lesson, though, added insurance for $6 a month from ATT. I wish there wasn't a deductible, but at least if it breaks I'm spending only $200 and not $600.

Chrono-

You can get a better insurance policy through Square Trade for your phone. If you buy through Amazon its $99 for 2 years (so $4/mo), a $99 deductable, and even covers water damage. Thats what I did for my One.
