Kindle has a lending library if you're a Prime member.

well amazon has free ebooks every day, although you may question the quality

pixelofink.com and ye.pixelofink.com for a curated list
us.kinlib.com for a more comprehensive list

of course there is always project gutenberg

for more modern books, you may be able to borrow them using lendle.me, ebookfling.com and booklending.com (use the free amazon books mentioned earlier to get credits)

you can also try searching for books with google, amazing what will turn up

also tons of information at www.mobileread.com/forums/

Project Gutenberg for out-of-copyright books

Baen.com for science fiction and fantasy, they have a good sized free library as well as paid titles

Some local libraries have electronic lending of e-books, you'll need to check your local library system.

yeah i mentioned in my OP that my library sucks ass (it is the size of a garage) and they don't do the e-books. I can use 2 of the local towns who have huge library's and they lend e-books ONLY if you are resident so we are excluded.

According to this page the lending library is one a month.

"Introducing the Kindle Owners' Lending Library
With Prime, Kindle owners can now choose from over 145,000 titles to borrow for free as frequently as a book a month, with no due dates"

How old is she? There are many books you can buy for free at amazon. Try here.

I doubt it. Libraries are paid for by taxes, I'm not sure who would pay to build and maintain an online library for you to get free books. Except out-of-copyright

Are you sure you are not eligible for another library in your area? For example I can get e-books from both Seattle and King County.

I can use both Dekalb and Sycamore library. they also have the E-loan but only for residents wich is the issue.

Just to clarify, are you not able to purchase a non-resident library card? Most libraries offer it for $50-100/year.

I didn't know this was possible. Maybe better to look into a major metro library system, find whoever has the best e-book selection in the country and buy from them.

edit: http://www.nookboards.com/forum/59-nook-discussions/10062-library-has-best-selection-ebooks.html Philly $15?

I didn't realize one was talking only from the Lending Library...it wasn't specified in the original post I saw commenting on this, but I have corrected myself already above.

The whole purpose of a library is to lend a book out. Only exception are reference libraries. But even those are starting to do e-lending now.

hmm its up to $35 now but still a good deal.

she has a $50 gift card so she won't be needing anything NOW but i doubt that gets her through summer.

so far she got the hunger games trilogy, judy moody and boxcar children. oh and star wars books she has no idea how they got on it :whiste:

I'd be pissed if I lived in Philly. On hold because some dude in Indiana has it?

Good deal nonetheless

Why thank you capt. Obvious, however; usually I take more than a book at a time (assuming non-fiction)
