Well, then... It looks like all I need now is to make a trip to the U.S., to get the Nook from a B&N store. Judging from what I heard, I probably need to call ahead and make sure that they have it in stock... And, apparently, the closest B&N store is in Syracuse, NY.

Curious, if the Nook came out like this but had Honeycomb in it, would it probably be the best Android tablet? Better than the Xoom (especially for the price)?

You have to take into account the different form factors--a 7" tablet is hugely different than a 10" one. For the money, I'd argue that a Nook Color with Honeycomb would be far and away the best bang for the buck.

The only problem I saw of it running Honeycomb is the speed of the system. However, is it true with the Nook that it relies on the speed of the microSD card?

I'm running the honeycomb preview on mine.. it's quite usable with the CPU OC'ed to 1.1Ghz..

Considering that the honeycomb build we're running on these things was hacked together from the SDK emulator for Honeycomb.. I think the performance is acceptable for the most part.

I only expect it to get better once Google releases the source and people build an AOSP version of Honeycomb specifically for the Nook Color.

It's a fairly popular device among hackers, it seems.. largely due to its fairly powerful hardware and that it's nearly impossible to brick it (it boots from the sdcard by default.. so 99.99% of the time, you can restore your device to working order even when it won't boot from the internal memory anymore.)

Thanks to a fellow atoter I was about to pull the trigger on the $199 nook color on ebay.. I put my old iPhone 3g for sale (not even the 3gs!) and it sold for $162! Which made me realize - I should just get an iPad because the resale value's insane. I bought my iMac years ago (4+) for $1800 and it's still going for $1,200 on ebay, apple tax ftw :)

I like it as tablet for $200. If they get bluetooth working, it would be even better, for IP telephony, especially.

I've been back and forth about the NC as a cheapo tablet. I heard there was a new version coming out, is that true?

Can I tether a Droid off this to get 3G internet where there is no wifi?

Err... unless you're asking backwards, you'll be tethering this off your droid. I assume you meant that.

As long as your droid supports wifi tethering, that'll work.

Err... ya, I meant use the phones 3G to provide internet to Nook. More interested in USB tethering since I haven't rooted said Droid.
