Hey guys,

I went to Fry's during my lunch break to pick up GRAW2 and the cashier seemed a bit shady when I paid for it. I paid using my debit card and entered my PIN on the keypad, but when the receipt printed out, he didn't put the store copy in the register. He kind of put it under his keyboard. I'm wondering if there's any way that he can potentially get into my checking account with that slip. My copy of the receipt has my account shown as "xxx-xxx-xxx-last 4 digits". For some reason, when he put the slip under his keyboard, that raised some flags and I was thinking that maybe I should stop at the bank on my way home to change my PIN or something. Am I being overly paranoid? Would he have enough info on the store's copy of the receipt to gain access into my account?

I think that what cashiers do.

Unless he has your card in hand, its not possible

Well, it just threw me off guard since he put it underneath the keyboard instead of in the actual register. I would think that he would need more info, like my PIN, but I just want to make sure. I had to deal with ID theft before and it was a huge headache.

if he was able to take a picture of your card or get the card number some other way (maybe through the register) then they could make a new one and use your pin to access your account

it happened to a friend of mine.

Meh. You really have to trust the companies you authorize to use your CC. Have you ever ordered pizza? They ask for your number and expiration date on the phone...at least Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Dominos, and Godfathers all do.

The store's copy of the card receipt will have your card details on it (Full number - not XXX'd out - and exp date). Although it won't have your name or PIN.

It probably isn't enough info for him to access your account - but nevertheless this is relatively sensitive information which should be kept confidential.

If you're concerned, ask the store manager what their normal policy is. If the policy is something different - then ask him to investigate.

I am pretty sure they have your name on them. But still unless they have your card number + pin they can't do anything. They could recreate the card with the number + exp date and use it as a credit card (which would be insured by your card co)
