noobie rebuild advice request

My 5yr old (amd x2 4800, MSI 7125 mb)likely has bad MB and/or cpu. I got new psu, video while testing for problem. So, what to get?

I'd go with Option 2 probably. Maybe look at the Athlon II X4 depending on what you are doing.

These days, I'm opting for DDR3 memory since it's the same price as DDR2, and going AMD on the economical side, or i7 if you want super performance. I've had a lot of issues with i5 on 1156 boards.

What issues have you had on the i5 side? i5 sits perfectly for price/performance between the Phenoms and the i7s.
