Noobie help with PSU

Yesterday I installed a new Asus A8v, athlon 64 3500+ into my existing computer. Got everything hooked up, triple checked all the connections. As soon as I flip the switch on the back of the powersupply the computer turns on. The power button on the case has no effect on powering up or down. The internal powerswitch connector looks good. I've gone over all my other mobo connections and everything looks good.

The computer itself boots fine. It's sees the cpu, ram, hd's, everything. No problems there. I'm using a 350w Enermax EG365P. Any suggestions?

AMD 64 3500
Enermax EG365P
Corsair 512mb pc2700
ATI 9800 PRO
Lian-Li pc87

The only thing you can do is work from the switch, through the wires to the mobo - what else can it be?

Make sure you really have connected the mobo pwr sw connectors on.

and even if its on the right pins is it turned the right direction if that all checks out has to be case switch make sure something didn't pull loose.

HI Acksull and Welcome to the Forums!

Remove the (case) power switch and reset wires. Turn on your PSU. Hopefully it won't start up. Then breifly short the mobo power up pins. It should then start fine. If so, the power switch or the wiring is the problem.

If, with the case wires disconnected, it starts you may a short to the case (mobo touching something) or a hardware problem.

Orientation does not matter on the power switch.

Jack ok then I will ignore this paragraph in my mb manual.

Watch the power LED pin position and orientation. The mark "+" align to the pin the figure below stands for posative polarity for the led connection. Please pay attention to connect these headers. A wrong orientation will only cause the LED to not light, but a wrong connection of the switches could cause system malfunction.

don't know for sure as I'm not an EE ,so I usually follow the manual.

I'm no EE either. But orientation for the power switch has never mattered as far as I can tell. When you push the button it causes a short that fires up the PSU. Same thing you can do manually by shorting the pins on the mobo. So orientation is unimportant.

LEDs are different and have to be connected correctly to function AFAIK.

The last sentance is the maunual could be interpreted in a number of ways. Like hooking up the power button wires to the mobo pins for reset. 🙂

I do applaude your care in reading the mobo manual. We could do with a lot more of that around here. 😉
