Hi guys, noobie system builder here (Q6600)..... i'm having trouble removing a nut from the mobo....heres the deal...I just brought a Q6600 with U120-E.....can only OC it to 3.2ghz, and when i try to take out the mobo to lap the Q6600 as wells as the 120, i realized that in my noobness, when i put in the mobo, i screwed up royally.... being the first time builder, i used those small, 6 sided broze nuts to fasten the mobo to the case..... i basically put a screw on top of the broze nut that people use as the supporting nut that goes between mobo and case...and i used it on top of the mobo to fasten it to another bronze nut below....now when i try to take it out, i realize i cant...anyone know any specialzed tool i can use to unfasten the bronze six sided nut ? Thanks.... :-/

OOps lol!!!

You don't need to take out the mobo to lap the q6600. Just take out the chip and put it on ant-static bag/mat or even better use the protective cover that came with the cpu when you lap. You don't wan;t to be putting any pressure on the CPU when you lap it anyhow. Just nice n gentle...otherwise you'll make it concave and you want it flat.

You might as well leave the mobo in. Could use needle nose pliers for the standoffs if you really wanted to remove the mobo or maybe drill it out but I really would not advise anything that extreme. Gosh no...

Edit: Forgot to say...welcome to the forum...

HI ! thanks for the reply ! the problem is i cant move the HS /CPU.. :-( heheh coz U120E has a metal plate holder that goes thru the mobo from the bottom...if i remove the cpu & HS by removing the screws tightening the 120 to the plate, the plate will prob just fall back down below the mobo and since i cant remove the mobo i'll be SOL :-/ thats why i was wondering whether there exists some magical tool that'll bail me outta this plight :D
i so sad

If you are talking about removing these then a standard driver with the correct socket attachment will do the job...
