Noobie build questions

Noobie building fresh system and I'm confused. Have Asus p8z68-v le mobo, agility3 120gb drive. Upon my new build process, what is the correct order to:...update SSD firmware, update mobo bios, install win7 OS??? Have yet to install SSD, so I dont know what firmware version it is, same with mobo for that matter.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks for the quick reply. I've read alot of the info there (I think i"m going blind by now) but I'm still confused about the order of things.
Thanks
Dave

BIOS/UEFI firmware can wait until after the OS is installed. SSD you can do before or after (depending on whether or not the update is destructive to data).

With SSD firmware in particular, I would recommend adopting an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude. In other words, unless there is an issue that you know that you'll hit, leave well enough alone.

here is the correct answer 😛

Thanks guys...yes from what I've read, if firmware update goes bad you will lose all data on ssd.
Thanks for responding Mfenn, I like the if it ain't broke don't fix it. All your help on the first build (wifey's) made it go smooth. This is a build for myself, hope it goes the same. Only difference on this one is adding a HDD for storage in addition to the SSD boot drive and a graphics card after I've got everything up and running. I'm sure Ill have plenty more questions.
Thanks guys!!!
Dave

I disagree. Sometimes (in rare cases), updating the mobo's BIOS/UEFI will cause a Windows installation to require re-activating.

And you should ALWAYS be running the newest SSD firmware. They've been fixing a steady stream of bugs in various SSDs over the past two years.

This is so rare as to not be a factor. Windows bases your mobo ID on things like the MAC address which is unlikely to change with a BIOS update.

Here's the thing about new firmware revisions: they often introduce as many bugs as they fix. I've bricked so many SSDs by running bleeding edge firmware its not funny. IMHO, it's better to stick with the stable firmware than trying out the stuff that's just been released.

If memory serves, on my Agility3 the firmware v. is on the data plate... maybe have a peek at it. Crossreference it on OCZ's site. Mine is v2.15 (from Nov11) and is the current one.
