Like the summary said.... to have a personal website I need a domain name registered (NameCheap or GoDaddy) and I assume hosting??? Is that correct, or is it more complicated than that ??

What are good places for hosting and how much would a normal website cost/year ($$$)

As a n00b, you also need to find the correct forum :)

Anyway, yea, domain registration and a web host. You can usually get a decent host for less than 10 bucks a month, assuming you don't need anything fancy.

For site development?
Really depends on what kind of site you'll be running, how much content you'll have, how often it updates, etc.

PM me if you want to know more. :)

For just a personal site with not much content and not much bandwidth usage, you can go anywhere. Godaddy can register the domain and host the site, you can go places like hostpc or erice or just about anywhere. But you get what you pay for in support and reliability but for just a personal site, uptime and quicks upport might not be all that important.

Pagin Rossman.....

1) Register domain.
2) Find a web host.
3) Content, HTML, web design, etc.

You're done :)

Say I have registered a domain name, and I have a free 3-year 1and1 account, they gave me a free subdomain name like s??????.onlinehome.us, can I transfer the registration of my domain to 1and1 to use their package?
