UPDATE:

I've just purchased another BFG 8800GT OC with the hopes of going SLI. However, after some research it appears as if SLI can't be done with the GPU2 client. Can anyone comment?

--------
I've made some inquiries before, and ran both the standard GUI and the SMP versions in the past. However, my previous systems were all either underpowered or didn't last long. This is the first thing I've had a couple of systems that could actually make a difference.

-----
My Specs

PC 1:

INTEL Q6600 / Noctua NH-C12P - Stock right now but will heavily overclock -
BFG 680i SLI - I know its outdated but this is an awesome board!
4Gb Mushkin PC2-6400
BFG 8800GT 512mb OC
Corsair VX520
*other stuff that doesn't matter for folding*

PC 2:

Intel Q6600 / Sunbeam Core-Contact Freezer - Stock but will OC as much as my PSU can -
Gigabyte M-ATX motherboard - Don't remember the name -
2GB OCZ PC2-6400
No GPU
Antec 380w -or- Ultra V-Series 600w

------

My first question:

As far as I can tell I will be using two SMP clients for quadcore? So with PC 1 it will be two SMP's and one GPU2?

Also, I'm in the dark as to what switches to use, don't even know how really but can figure it out; and which cores to request.

PRETTY MUCH I need to know everything to set these machines up for MAX PPD!

Thanks guys and I look forward to crunching with you!

Welcome to the team!

If you are using Vista - 2 SMP clients + 1 GPU2 client.
If you are using XP - 1SMP client + 1 GPU2 client.

Look at the links at the bottom of the daily stats thread that Gleem makes. There is a link to Sid's guide to running 2 SMP clients.

You should be using the 6.22 beta SMP client now, download the correct version for your system. Make sure to follow the install instructions closely, it is NOT cut & dry, there are some important steps you cannot miss. As for flags, you add them to the end of the target in the shortcut properties, eg. "G:\FAH 1\fah.exe" -advmethods -forceasm -verbosity 9 -SMP.

As for the GPU2 client, it's pretty easy. Use the systray version, it's easy to install & run. It automatically sets itself up as machine 2, so if you are running 2 SMP clients as well you need to set them up as machine 1 and machine 3.

You can use FahMon to monitor ppd. You can check your stats at EOCstats.

Any more questions (and I'm sure there will be), just ask.

Way to go, Cutthroat.

The newest SMP version (6.22) comes in two flavors. One of them (the one that is NOT Deion) is the one I think is most straight forward to install. It downloads as a .exe file that you double click and experience an installer that is very easy to use.

Also as to the switches.... when you use the 6.22 client and run the configuration, all switches can be added in one of the questions there. for example, my answer was -smp -local -forceasm -advmethods -verbosity 9
then I didn't need to worry about making and altering any shortcuts to use flags. (KUDOS to Stanford for that one!)

Welcome back Liberator21, nice couple of rigs you have there 😎

Btw I don't suppose your name is derived from Blakes7 is it?😉

Thanks guys! Testing some overclocks right now then will run the installers, update asap...

No, my name is not from Blakes7, how is it related?
