Hi guys,

I'm a total noob who wants to build a new gaming pc, having sold his e8400 / 8800 GT.
The monitor is the LG W2363D-PF, so 120Hz and 1080p.
My objective is to have a very capable computer right off the bat, and being able to have an upgrade path in the future.
What about this setup? I'm italian, so don't worry about the € prices and strange names ^_^

Assemblaggio e Test PC € 35,00
Hard Disk Interno Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB 3.5" 7200rpm 32MB SATA2 HD103SJ € 43,70

Looks pretty good to me.

If you have a Steam folder or something like that you might want a larger SSD. In general you want to leave about 15% of the SSD free and with the operating system and everything on it you'll have to figure out how much storage space you'll need.

Yeah I do have a Steam folder, I was planning on trying to keep it smaller than before. I dunno, I wasn't sure to include a SSD at all, they are costly...

Also: would I be better going for a 580? or a full tower case like the HAF 932?

The Steam folder can be placed anywhere you like.

800 W is massive overkill for this setup. about 500W is fine.

You're right, I put in 800w just to be ready for a possibile SLI in the future... is it not worth it?

Also: could I go with the standard cooler and then apply an aftermarket one when I decide to OC?
That store does not mount aftermarket coolers anyway, so...
I'll check again other stores, but it appears that one has the best prices overall.

As for the case, I was undecided between the 690 II and Fractal R3 but that went out of stock so... here's my decision. ;-)

Do you think it could be worth it to spend more money on a 580?
And also: that mobo is Z68 but I'm not sure it supports Virtu and all that jazz... and does not have eSata... maybe I'd be better with a P67? For example the Asrock P67 Extreme4 rev.B3 has eSata and 2 frontal usb 3.0

Thanks again!

With PC hardware, trying to "future-proof" - "just to be ready for ... the future" - rarely makes sense. You are spending money now on the off-chance of a occurance in the all-too-unpredicatable future. This kind of insurance isn't financially sound, because hardware prices tend to fall, and performance & efficiency increases, so that extra money (saved, plus a little from compound interest) will buy far more when that future eventually comes around. :)

Yeah, you may be right.
So being SLI ready is not worth it after all? Better to go with a smaller PSU (this is not costly still) and maybe change the vga in a while with another single-card solution?

In the same line of thinking I should drop P67 and 2500k, since I could even not overclock at all...

Thanks Davidh and thanks all! :)

I'm nearing the final decision.
Still can't decide on the SSD and Z68 vs P67...

Oh, one thing I spotted that I can back up oynaz and betasub on is the 800W is overkill by about 250W. betasub is also right about the future. Prices will drop, efficiency will grow and you're more likely to be wasting that extra money than getting any sort of benefit in the future.

If you don't plan to overclock, you can even drop the mobo down to an H67. My recommendation would be to go with the GA-Z68A-D3H too save a little cash.

As for the GPU, I'd stick with a GTX 570. Sure, the GTX 580 is faster, but it's not worth the ~33% price increase.
