Noob to routers, looking for a confirmation on hardware choices....

I'm going to be buying a router tonight or tomorrow and was just looking to get you guys' opinions on a hardware choice before I buy. My budget is kinda low at the moment, so I'm looking to get the most I can for ~$100 max.

I have Charter broadband, and there will only be 2 computers on the router. I'd like to just hardwire my PC and have my roommate on a wireless adapter.

I assumed that the Linksys routers were fine, I know lots of people use them. My roommate doesn't do much on her PC, mostly just web browsing. I game on mine, mostly WoW and a few FPS games although I've been out of the loop lately. I guess I would just say that I have more demand for a constant connection for hours at a time.

So I guess with all that said...

There were 2 main questions I had with this situation. First is that my roommates PC is quite old (I believe it's an Asus A7N266-E and a Palomino 2000+) and has native USB 1.1. While she does have a USB 2.0 PCI card, she has run into lots of issues with it conflicting with the native USB. Honestly that's a whole different game but I thought it might be relevant. I have tried everything to fix this problem, including multiple trips to this board. While I'd love to just convince her to spend $100 on a combo deal somewhere and upgrade this thing, it's not going to happen... so I'm contemplating going the PCI card route for her PC.

Second is just a money saving question. I know that B standard routers can be found for cheaper than the newer and better G versions. Would that be a wise decision? I did notice the new Speedboost tech on the Linksys routers. Would I really notice the difference between a G class router with Speedboost and an older B class router without it? My network demands aren't really high, so if I can shave off a few bucks here and there it would help but I really don't want to sacrifice much performance by saving a few pennies.

Thanks ahead of time for your help, I know you're all probably letting out deep sighs before you type, lol.

I agree. The above router choice is pretty good. I've set it up for three friends I know and they haven't called me to complain. They've been running that Netgear router for a while now.
