Question Noob to m2 & ssd vs hdd? New build.

It's been awhile since I've done anything inside a pc; am fine with mechanical hdd and thought ssd drives wore out quicker as they were flash tech, but guess not. Now I see all this about the m2 drives, how important are they if not doing speed intensive work, are they worth the extra cost on a budget build (i3-10100/z490 mini-itx, 16gb ram, 2 tb sata hdd.) Thanks.

NVMe SSDs are pretty much the same price as SATA SSDs, so it really doesn't make any sense to buy something that is much slower.

Some things like loading games is not much of a difference, but things like Windows updates, virus scans, and overall responsiveness are faster.

It would make no sense not to build a system with a nVME.
Its a stick about the size of a gum, that fits in your board.
They are about 10x-15x faster then a mechanical drive, and about 3-5x faster then SSD's.

At the very least i would run a 256gb nVME for bootup and OS.

Are they worth it? Yes in every sense, unless your really strapped on budget.
You can get a 256gb nvme for around 40-50 dollars, and it will probably be the best well spent as it will decrease boot time, decrease load up times, and increase responsive, just overall make your system feel a bit snappier.
