noob that really needs help bad!

Help!!

Hi there I just have a few quick questions. I am trying to learn all I can about computers and such
(trying to become a hardcore enthuasiast), and I was wondering there are a whole bunch of sites
that contain alot of info on mobos, ram, video cards, processors etc, but are there
any books I can buy that could teach me everything I need to know, for example the basics of RAM, how
to overclock, what are the best types of motherboards and configurations of computers depending
on what you use them for etc etc. I haven't read up on computers for almost a year, and have
pretty much forgot everything about them. I want to learn how to
a) overclock
b) all about hardware, how it works, descriptive information on hardware
c) new technologies (eg. SLI, MXM etc etc)

I know I could learn all this if i spent massive amounts of time searching forums and going to
sites, but I just don't have the time and would really prefer just reading a book
that has everything compiled on the topics I want to learn more about. I want to learn for ex,
the differences between RAM, video cards, how to determine whether you have good RAM, video cards and what not.
I want to learn more about modding, well pretty much to sum things up, I want to learn about
every aspect of hardware to become as knowledgable as a hardcore enthuasiast. I appreciate all feedback.

I can, but it takes way too long, like i said i don't have all the time in the world to read on the internet and surf right now. I want something comprehensive and all together, whereas if you search on the net everything is pretty much scattered in fragments.

Read Maximum PC and CPU magazines to keep you updated. That or surf the net all day.

d00d, start reading the main site here, & hanging out on the forums.

It's not like there's a book you can read.

Knowledge is gained via experience & reading what others have to say.

The Forums are a good way to get started and to stay on top of things. The collective hardware knowledge around here is excellent and extremely current. To start with, study some of the many "rate my new computer specs" threads to see what's recommended for given purposes. Read threads that interest you, you'll get the hang of it soon enough

Read Anandtech, from the first cpu/video/ram articles to the last. You will learn alot of info that way.

Searching google would teach you anything you needed to know on how everything in a PC works. This forum would really help as well. Just surf it about 10- 20 minutes per day; it has already more than doubled my knowledge on everything I thought I knew about computers.

Yep. I thought I was this "uber 1337 expert!!1111" before I came to this forum.... then I felt like a newb.....

But here I am, making up guides for motherboards (see sig) and all.

If you're still looking for a book, I highly recommend Scott Mueller's "Upgrading and Repairing PCs", as long as you get the newest version. It's a bit pricey, but it's quite useful in explaining all of the hardware down to its smallest parts (it even has a listing of what each pin on various processors do!).
