Hello people,

I would just like to start my first post by recognizing the vast amount of useful information on this site. You guys are a great resource for complete computer noobs like myself.

ANyway, here is the situation

I have this Sony VAIO VGC RB40:
Intel p4 530 3ghz 800mhz with HT
(2x256)512mb DDR - 400 RAM
2 available 184 pin dimm slots
200gb 7200rpm sata drive
has PCI E

and I need to make it into a BF2 capable machine. I got it new for a really inexpensive price and I dont do enough with computers in general to make a $1k plus unit. (other than gaming; no photochop/videos, etc) Plus I am super poor and cant afford to drop $2k on a gaming machine. I do however have a 26" LCD tv (with DVI port) that I would like to use, so I need a video card that will support it.

Anyway, will these items make it run BF2 with no troubles?

ATI RAdeon x800 256mb GDDR3 PCI -Express x 16
ATI x800
and to achieve 1.5gb of RAM i would get 2 sticks of
Corsair ram

will this leave me with some power on reserve? Will is even work? Suggestions are welcomed. including to scrap the whole idea!

Thanks again for all of your help. In the meantime Ill keep myself busy searching all the posts for more info  to you guys

Will

Not bad.

Don't waste that much money on the ATi X800XL though.
Get the cheaper Sapphire or HIS or Gigabyte, or...yeah, you get the picture.

Yeah, I think there was a deal at tigerdirect for $229 without rebates, but looks like that's over?

The X800XL is a great card, but you're going to need a very serious system to crank settings up all the way I think.
