Noob seeking advice on building PC

The PC I have now is starting to show its age, so I'm building a new bird. My friend helped me build my last machines, but this time he won't help me because he strongly dislikes my choice in processor. To avoid religious arguments over Intel vs. AMD, I'll just keep it at that.

How dangerous is it for me to do this myself with no prior experience? Suggested reading?All advice/widsom/suggested reading/general flame-wars appreciated.

IF you take your time, it really isn't all that hard to do, patience is definetly needed as well. Quality parts and good supplier make building a bit easier.
