Noob raid question - adding a second drive requires reinstall?

Hello,

Thinking about adding a second drive for Raid 0. Does anyone know if this requires a reinstall of OS and all my apps, or can I simply add a second (identical) drive and mirror it dynamically without reinstalling everything?

Thanks!

PS.

You could make an image of your current system, just make sure you install the raid controllers before you make the image. then set up the raid and restore your image on to your raid setup. That would be assuming you have an extra image/partition to make the image on.

That's something I've been wondering about - how would I make such an image?

Could you please briefly explain the process, including both software apps/usage and hardware configs involved?

Acronis, and you'll need a third drive. You could span it across a set of DVD rewritables. Check the web site as they may have external USB drive support now.

Thanks - I'll research it. I've heard of ghost but I guess I don't quite understand the process, especially the boot and restore, as in you ghost the image and, I assume, reformat your drive(s), and boot up and restore - but boot from what? The drive which houses the images I guess.

I'll check it out.

Yep... Ghost your current system to an image file then once you create the array you'll restore that image file to the newly created array. Ghost is nice.
