Noob Questions On SSDs

I am about to build a new system and am seriously considering using an SSD for the OS and apps.

System:
i7 920 on an MSI Pro-E MB
Win 7 64 OS
Case: CM HAF932

Right now I am leaning towards the Corsair X128 SSD (Indilink based).

Now for the newbie questions:
1. If I get this off the Egg or Amazon, do I need to get any extra mounting hardware like one of those trays that let you mount 2.5" drives in a 3.5" bay or is the drive sufficiently mountable as-is?

2. How difficult is it to install W7 on an SSD in such a setup? I mean in terms of how it compares to installing on a HDD, which is very straightforward (OS install recognizes drive, allows you to format, partition, whatever, without going through any contortions). Anything special I need to know about for a W7 clean install on an SSD?

Thanks!

1) If you're mounting it in a 3.5 bay then yes you need an adapter.

2) Installing Win7 on a SSD is exactly the same as using a mechanical HD. Do the normal stuff, install HD, ensure it's reflected in your BIOS, and then install Win7. Win7 will recognize the drive no problem.

Thanks for the reply! Obviously, this is the first time I have dealt with SSDs.

Another basic question on mounting. Is mounting the SSD in a 3.5 bay the preferred option, or do folks generally do something else?

You can literally velcro the things to the case in any orientation you want. Don't worry about fancy mounting unless it is for a specific reason.

If you can do it on a regular hard drive it won't be an issue. Win 7 just sees it as a hard drive.

Thanks! Sounds like the install should not be a problem.

Looks like I can just let the drive sit on the bottom of the case! Just joking! 😀 The HAF is a big case, so I am sure I can find somewhere to put it. Shoot, I may even stick it in a 3.5 bay if it looks convenient.
