Noob question

u can remove the factory gump using arctic clean or isopropyl alocohol.
Usually replacing the stock thermal grease with AS5 does reduce temps,a little.Make sure u put a thin quote.
 
these days the so called factory goop is of good quality ands AS5 will not make that much of a diff at all. Especially on the northbridge!!
 
Besure to lap the bottom of the heat sink. Alot of these chipset heat sinks are not very flat and do not contact the chipset evenly. You may gain more from lapping then changing the goop/gump, but change the gump while you have the heat sink off.
 
Even if the thermal interface is of higher quality, manfacturers often do not properly cover the whole surface of the chip. Replacing the thermal interface will ensure 100% contact between the chip and the heatsink.
