Noob Question: Updating Graphics Driver

Ultralight

Senior member
I have an Asus V9280/TD GeForce 4 Ti4200 8X AGP 128 Meg card. I would like to upgrade the latest nVidia drivers. However, I have never done this before and I have read that nVidia drivers are notorious on leaving remnants of the old driver when it is uninstalled. How does one go about step-by-step uninstalling and installing new drivers?

Also, how does one determine if there is a conflict with the present driver? My computer screen gets these yellow pixel dots that are random in nature. Plus, my cursor has two lines that outline it. In addition, I have been having fits trying to play NeverWinter Nights PC game recently. The game freezes or I have other crashes. Could the Firewall, et. al. intefer here?

Thanks for you patience and taking the time to read this.

simply uninstall the old driver, and install the new driver, most of the files the new driver writes will over write the "remnant files" anyway. the only concern would be if you where going from an nvidea card to an ati card, then you might have some bizarre driver issues.

Thanks for the responses and the link. My question still remains, however, where do I go to find the driver in order to be able to uninstall said driver; what are the steps to do this? Thanks again.

Those instructions are found in the third item listed under the helpful hints I linked for you above. Specifically:

Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

DUH! My bad, Fern. Thanks for answering the obvious anyway. By the way, are you aware that your second post to me was lucky #666?!
