I'm looking at the prices for Athlon 64 3200 2.00GHZ 512KB S939 vs Athlon XP 3200+ 2.20 GHZ 400FSB S462
and they are vitually indentical, $288.00 CDN each.

I havent't kept up with CPU technology, so can you exlain which is better for the price and why?

TIA

Marc

The A64. Why? 64-bit technology. Even though the clock speed is a tad lower, you'll notice a performance gain. Also it's nice to have 64-bit for Windows 64 and whatever comes out in the future that will be 64-bit.

I second that and will say you will have somewhat of a future for upgradeability on the 939's. Performance over the XP line is quite a jump as well.

yes. the 2800+a64 is faster than the 3200+xp. the 64 is just more efficent at what it does. also it will support 64bit programs in the future unlike the athalon xp.

So, for the same price I can get a higher performing CPU that will accomodate future 64 bit apps?

Why would anyone buy the Athlon XP 3200+ 2.20 GHZ 400FSB S462 ?

I own the exact CPU you are asking about, get it and enjoy the performance. I actually upgraded from the 3200 XP (wife now owns it), and the difference between the 2 is pretty noticeable.

These 64 bit chips are killing everything on the market right now.
