Noob question - Hub/router

Ok, Ive run out of Ports on My Router, and want to add a wireless access point. If i buy a hub, is there anything I really need to do other than plug it in to a port on the router. Would the IP's get messed up or anything?

Im getting a great deal on one of These, and i was wondering if there is anything special to make it work.

Thanks in advance.

Just connect the hub to the router using a crossover cable (or the uplink port, if your router has one) and verify that you see link LEDs lighting up on both sides of the connection. A hub is essentially just a dumb box that forwards packets it receives in on one port out all the other ports; you won't have to worry about getting your ip addresses messed up. Just plug it in and go.

Ideally, you would want a switch, which would do the same job but more efficiently, but if you're just looking to add one or two more clients, don't worry about it.

I'm not too experienced with wireless, so I could be wrong here.

Wouldn't he be better off just getting a wireless router that has 4 ports built in, and just connect that to his existing router, as an access point?

I would reco a switch over the hub as they can usually be found cheaper then hubs these days and then get a wireless AP. That being siad, I am in need of a 100mb hub (not a switch) so where and what is the good deal on this hub?

I dont' think you want a crossover cable connecting the hub to the router.

use the uplink port of the hub to a port on the router using a straight through cable.

It makes no difference either way.

A straight 100 or 10/100 is fine 5-8 ports. Need it for my surfcontrol and snort boxes.
