Dear Friends

Before i start let me get the basic parts out of the way.

I am building a gaming rig without taking any peripherals (meaning budget allocation given highest priority for processor/mobo/graphics card.

After much trolling and listening to advise from you all i finally found something that would kick ass and not put me on the dole line.

Now i am living in India, though i will be getting one of my friends to buy the stuff for me. So some of my budget will go in shipping and insurance etc.

Let me start by the break up, i have not bought the parts yet.

Chip/Processor :- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor - $245.00(newegg)

Mobo :- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - $189.99(newegg)

Graphics Card :- ATI Radeon HD 4890 <----- totally buggered on which make to go for (approx 250$ newegg)

Memory :- DDR 3 4 gigs (have already)

Power Supply :- 850 w Antec (have already)

now here is the kicker, and yes i am confused, see there are tons of Radeon makers, saffire/msi/asustek/etc.

Which make to go for??

i mean whats the difference between the cards, i am not knowledgeable enough to be able tell the difference between the makes.

Please advise me which one to go for??

With Lots of Thanks and Regards

Suyash

The only real difference (well differences, depending on who you talk to) will be: 1. Customer Service/warranty services, 2. Performance/Reliability, 3. Quality of materials.

Any one of those three differences can make or break peoples' opinions about MSI, Evga, XFX, Sapphire, Asustek, etc. You'll be hard pressed to get just only one answer. Many people have brand loyalties (mine are towards EVGA and XFX for graphics card).

That said, your best bet is to wait for more people to respond to this thread, figure out what's the common denominator (such as Customer Service during the RMA process) and make your decision there. At least that is what I do before I buy my graphics cards.

Hope this helps ya and good luck with your decision.

If you care about quiet I'd go for the HIS ICEQ4 4870. I have the 4850 and have appreciated the speed combined with QUIETness. of the card. Too many high end cards today get away with abnoxiously loud cooling components.

I have good opinions of HIS, eVGA, XFX, Powercolor and Sapphire. I'm sure others are good too but these are the ones I've had experience with.

Have you checked the prices for graphic cards in India? I from India as well and I think the prices of GPU's would have fallen a tad bit offlate. I doubt though whether you'll be lucky enough to grab an evga, so if you've already decided to ship your products through your friend then definitely evga and xfx are the great choices.

What I see mainly in the shops in India are they concentrate mainly on sapphire and sparkle (for Nvidia). I had a terrible experience buying an Acer product from Singapore and ended up getting no warranty from Acer back in India. With immense help from mpilchfamily here I dismantled that rig and built me a new one.
