Hey, I just put in a new Asus Nforce2 Mobo and now my system seems to be running pretty hot, also got a new Antec 350w PSU, anyways I was wondering what normal system/cpu temps are, right now mine are at around 60c/140f for cpu and 40c for system, also my master HDD seems to be extremely hot, anyone know what may be causing this?

Is that 60c CPU temp. under load or idle? If it's load, I wouldn't worry about it, if it's idle temps. then I would worry about. Uninstall the heatsink, apply thermal goop, install heatsink correctly.

Who makes your HDD? model?

I would worry about that 60. I run my computers at 55 max which I've never seen them get that high. What kind of case cooling do you have? Is there a fan blowing across the hard drive? We need more details about the system as you do need to make some improvements.

I had that very same thing the first few days with a new box... its an XP2400 AMD proc and was running at 60 on average. Opened up the case and the temps dropped, case doesn't have good airflow. For now I leave the case open on the side and that seems to do pretty good, average temps are 45-55 depending on room temp. If I leave for an extended period of time I'll put a window fan blowing into the box and that also works wonders. Ambient temp can affect your proc temps bigtime... so if you can afford to spend money on AC to keep the house at 65, go for it.

what temps are being quoted here:
bios?
asus probe?
mbm: diode or socket?
very curious as there is a wie variation between the reading with 42C with asus probe equating to 60C with MBM diode!

i am similarly concerned with my temps and wonder how seriously to take it.
for the timme being it is running okay so not that concerned, but still....

My temps are probably best considered under load.... I have SETI@home running all the time unless I am playing a game or doing disk maintance.

Temps are from the bios, and I think the problem is my case not having good air flow, keeping it opened now till I can get better cooling and its running around 45
