noob question about installation

Ok, this is my second build but it has been 4 years and I honeslty dont remember what I did (worked the first time!). I have the va4000 thermaltake case and it has 9 raised areas that match up with the holes in the mobo. If I place the mobo on these then it is level and seems to be at the right height. I know if you mount it on anything metal it will fry or not work and the case came with 4 brass stand offs and a crap load of metal screws but that is it! Any recommendations would be great! Thanks guys.

If your holes line up with the titty looking things just mount it.....lol

If it lines up with the other holes then you might need to double up some standoffs to clear those "raised areas", maybe cover them with tape also.

 
I don't think so....it looks like they come to enough of a point.

Just to be safe, go to there web site and see if you can find something on it.
 
Those standoffs that are part of the motherboard tray should be fine to use. mechBgon even documents that type in his guide. Put the brass standoffs in the holes where they're supposed to go (edit: sorry; I must have assumed a bit too much about your knowledge of this--DON'T install standoffs where there are no mobo screw holes!!), and then screw everything in.
 
the case manual says to check the mobo manual :light: and the mobo manual goes into great detail of the hardware installation but nothing on the actual board installation except that under mounting is says exactly "9 mounting holes" then goes onto the layout. WTF 😕 (MSI neo plat board)

Hrmm...I guess I will try it on the those nubs. There are no need for stand offs in this case unless I put them up as support in the MicroATX holes...hmm I dont know if I want to risk frying this! I hate decisions. :disgust:
 
If you have some thin nylon washers, that would work great.....you could even make some out of a butter bowl lid or something.


edit......Dont put standoffs anywhere you dont have a hole lining up or that would just be asking for sparks.

You'll be fine!
 
1) i'd take ts3433's advice (he's quite a smart fellow)
2) if the mobo manual says 9 holes, there are probably only 9 usable holes (there may acctually be more, but you're only supposed to use the ones that are lined with a metal ring)
3) you don't need washers between your standoffs and your mobo. we just discussed this the other day

Keep in mind these arnt regular standoffs....And i think he's worried about metal contact outside of the normal metal/solder hole area.
 
If your mother board isnt cocked all sideways by screwing the standoffs into those raised things first (then puting mb on both)...... than forsure thats the way to go.
