Noob question about BSOD and checking logs

How do I check the logs after a BSOD in windows 7? Totally noob question I know but my stepson said he's been getting a weird blue screen with text and something about a memory dump sporadically when he turns on his pc. Also some weird flickering. It's obviously a BSOD but last night I wasn't able to replicate it when I would fire it up. Where do I look to access logs when troubleshooting? I fig. once I find that I can do some googling on the errors.

The flickering suggested maybe it was a driver issue so I updated his drivers. I was thinking of running memtest tonight to see if it gets back any errors.

His specs are:

1055t
4gb gskill ripjaws
asrock am3 mobo (can't remember the model right now)
650w antec psu
xfx 5770 gpu (with newest drivers)
