Hey,

I've got a cat6 patch panel and a decent punch down tool but cannot get connections happening. I have resorted to having the patch panel out of the rack and testing with a single 50cm length of cat6 cable wired into panel and a wall jack. I have tried both the A and B wiring (making sure it is the same at the Jack and the panel) and tried various segments in each of the banks.

I have attached some pictures. Can anyone tell me if I have screwed up my wiring i.e. am I reading the diagram on the patch panel wrong?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

The jack looks fine if 568A is the desired wiring. That patch panel does look confusing. I believe you're meant to use both top and bottom rows for each port. So your cable would be split a little bit like it is in the wall jack, with four wires going up and four down.

In this case, if you want to wire port #22 on the patch panel using 568A, then your blue and orange pairs on top are correct. Take the green and brown pairs and punch them down on the pins directly opposite them on the other row.

You'll find it much easier to run the cable down the middle of the patch panel, however. So you should also pull off the blue and orange pairs, move the cable to the middle and re-punch those four wires on the top row, same pins, but with the wires pointing upward.

Yep, the patch panel is not punched down correctly. You'll use 4 pins on each the top and bottom punch blocks.

Not to be a rude as i'm new here. But that patch panel couldn't be clearer in its instructions. If shows you exactly where to punch in the cables.
