please see this pic.

Currently the only way I can use a printer or share files via the laptop is to physically attach it to the SMC router. How can I resolve this without physical re-configuration or is that not possible?

I guess one solution would be to get wireless cards for the 2 computers and forgo the SMC router correct?

You should be able to turn off dhcp on the linksys and use it as an AP. Put all the PC's including the Laptop in the same workgroup and enable file and printer sharing. Then share the Canon and/or the HP and everyone in your workgroup should be able to print and share files as long as the AMD Box and/or Intel Box are turned on. I have a similar set up in my house.

Here!!!

If your SMC has a print server, why do you have the printers plugged into the PCs?

just never did migrate it but it still wouldn't resolve current issue.

edit: initially it was a printer-cable-couldn't-reach-the-router problem.

that is probally why you cant reach it unless it plugged into the SMC.

You have introduced uneeded layers of complexity.

I.e. to print from you laptop ,pda or any othe machine the machinr with the printer attached must be on and it must be on, and be in the same workgroup with file and printer sharing enabled. Move the printer to the SMC unit DELETE the printer driver on each machine and then reload drivers AS NETWORK Printers on all machines. You should be able to config the print server on the SMC box. And as previously mentioned ensure you have disabled DHCP the Linksys and make it a DHCP relay.
