Noob needing help with memory settings...

I'm looking for some help with the memory timing settings in the bios. Some of the settings I have figured out, but others I can't find much, if any information on.

What I have purchased:

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI

CORSAIR XMS 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200)

I realize that I won't get the absolute fastest performance with the selected ram. But 2 gigs min is required for the work side of the rig. Some slight over clocking would be nice, but first I want to make sure I get at least the stated performance for the ram. From what I have read about motherboards, the default (or auto) settings do not always provide the best performance.

I have read the manual and looked around at various help files. I've even experimented with some of the settings in the bios. I'm just glad there is a button for resetting the bios. 😉

Thanks for any help.

just set the latency to 2.5-3-3-6. that means CAS=2.5 TRC=3 TRP=3 TRAS=6

you should be able to find these in your bios. also, make sure that 2t command rate is disabled, or that 1t is enabled.

theman,

Thanks for the quick reply. However, those are the few settings I do know. It's the other memory settings that are confusing me. I guess there are too many options. lol

When I go from "auto" to manual and try and set these timings, the computer will not boot or even let me back into the bios. That's why I think that I need to set some of the other settings as well. Am I wrong?

Thanks.
