Noob needing help with first MATX build

I haven't put together a system in about 8 years. I am putting together a low end system that I would like to keep quite. Here's my build:

MB GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2HP 780G
CPU AMD|A64 X2 5050E 2.6G AM2 W/ stock cooler
MEM 2Gx2|OCZ DII800
HD 500G|WD WD5001AALS
DVD BURN LG|GH22NS30 22X SATA
MS WIN VISTA HM PREM SP1 64BIT

It's all going in a In-win Z583 case. In-win shows the HD to be mounted here:

Should I mount it here or just put it up in one of the 3.5" bays? It's seems like like it might block air flow mounted in front of the vents. Or maybe it would keep the HD cooler. This case only has one 90mm fan in the rear of the case. I would like to reduce the RPM of that case fan to reduce noise farther. WDO

I once built a really quiet micro ATX gaming rig in an In Win 523 series case. It was built like a tank and super quiet!

Based on your parts, I'd say just use the normal mounts. Don't think you'd have any temperature problems. Also, doesn't that case have a side port for the CPU?

normal mounts meaning in the 3.5" drive bay or mounted against the front panel? It does have a plastic shroud that is suppost to go over the CPU fan and direct that heat out a side vent. The shroud doesn't line up so it will be left out.

I'd probably go with an ATX case or an mATX case that can take a standard ATX PSU. Those SFX size PSUs are a PITA...

Good thing those micro ATX In Win cases we were talking about uses normal ATX PSUs. 😉 The one I built got an Antec True Power 330W.

I think you should be safe mounting your HD on that front vent area. While it might seem like you're blocking air flow from the front, pics of your case online show that it has side vents as well that will allow fresh air to get sucked in while your rear fans blows air out. Also air will probably seep in around whatever front vent holes you haven't blocked with the HD.

You should be able to regulate the case fan, if you power it through your motherboard. If not, you could always 7 or 5v mod it

Yep, it's a ATX PS. I was planning to change out the ps with a antec I had. But this one is VERY quiet.

That is kind of what i was thinking. The case does have a large side vent. And I think that the air pulled around the HD will cool it as well. HD tune shows the HD @ 33 C.

I do have the case fan powered thru the MB. I'm not sure how to throttle it down from there. Easy tune 5 that came bundled w/ the MB shows the Sys fan @1520rpm and sys temp@32c. The CPU fan@ 962rpm@21c. Easy tune is let me adjust the cpu fan speed according to the temp but not the case fan. I set the cpu fan @ 100%@60c and 30%@22c.
