Noob home sever questions?

Okay so I'm in a need of some sort of media server and I want to spend as little money as possible. I want to be able to play 1080p movies off this server and I'm wondering if this CPU will be viable, transcoding is obviously a no-no but what about direct-play?

I am currently using a 3850 as the cpu for my file server at home, it works fine, I haven't seen any slowdowns caused by it yet.
