Hey everyone. I've been into computers but not really into over clocking and such.

Here's my current setup that I just finished:

ASRocks Dual SATA2
AMD X2 3800+
Gigabyte 3D Aurora Case
GeForce 6600GT
Thermaltake Big Typhoon
Patriot 2GB (2x1G) DIMM PC3200 Ram
(2x) 160GB Seagate SATA HD 8MB
80GB WD SATA HD
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
NEC 3550A DVD Burner

Anyways. I do have a question, and I do see the sticky on top. I'm perfectly happy with this computer as of now (coming from a 2.4ghz socket 478 w/512 ram) so I'm not looking to oc right now. But I would love to eventually. So..does anyone have the same setup I do? Just curious of what settings you're using and what problems/success stories you have to share.

TIA

Heh, seriously. I'd say that you can probably hit around 2.8GHz (on water) easily. Your motherboard is a bit limited on the vcore, however, so if your CPU doesnt scale too well with voltage you may be limited to something a bit lower unless you vmod your mobo.

Wait you have a watercooled X2 while that could have been a watercooled Opty?

No, just kidding, the ASRock overclocks pretty well, and with the modded BIOSes even better, so the 2.4 - 2.5GHz barrier will probably be crossed easily... About the settings, they're almost the same with everybody... Or you have value RAM and you set a divider, or you have RAM that overclocks really well, and can go up with the HTT... Your CPU becomes unstable, up the voltage... Your RAM gets crapped out, up the voltage as well...

Overclocking with this board is just the same as with any other board out there... Not much people will have the EXACT same setup you do, but anyone that knows the board, will be happy to help you out...

EDIT: Watercooling??? He's got a Big Typhoon... Got carried away a bit too much I guess...

many X2-3800 seems t ohit a wall around 2.6Ghz where the voltage needs to be increased fairly mucg to get the extra Mhz.

Yeah, I assumed he had watercooling because darkknight said so and 2.8GHz sounds pretty realistic to me on water (the voltage may need to be pretty high, though). I think that board's maximum is around 1.4v without having a volt mod (though a modded bios MAY allow you to raise it all the way to 1.5) so 2.6GHz or so sounds much more realistic.

Even on water, my 4200 couldn't get past 2.6. I think that 2.5 is a reasonable goal for any X2. BTW, Optys are better.

Hi, and welcome. :)

You have a nice system but a faster videocard would really open it up. ;)

Forgot about it... Of course, welcome to the forums... :)

Depends on what his comp will be used for eh... If gaming, you indeed need something faster...

thanks everyone. Yea my roomate bought me the 6600GT for Christmas, so I couldn't get rid of it. That's why I needed a board to support both AGP and PCIe.
