Noo! bratz dolls ordered to be pulled off shelves!

In the long-running struggle between the makers of Barbie and Bratz, the more demure diva has emerged victorious over her sassier, sultrier competitor.

MGA Entertainment Inc. was dealt a knock-out legal punch late Wednesday when a federal judge ordered the company to stop making the doe-eyed, pouty-lipped Bratz dolls it's been selling since 2001. Competitors go up against each other every day, but it's rare for a court to order a company's products off the shelf, legal experts said.

The ruling came after a jury found in August that the Bratz creator developed the idea while working at Mattel, maker of the iconic Barbie doll. After a four-year legal battle, the jury awarded Mattel up to $100 million in damages for breach of contract and copyright infringement.

U.S. District Judge Stephen Larson ordered MGA to stop manufacturing all 40 Bratz dolls and reimburse vendors and distributors for the costs of the dolls and for shipping them back.

Thank God....I hate those stupid things.

+1

My 4 year old daughter wanted one for Xmas. Hell no.

yeah my 6 yr old wants them. i told her that she would NEVER get one.

also they have a series for uhoh's Baby bratz! (aka baby hoe's)

Exactly my feelings. I'll buy Dora, Pocoyo, those stupid In the Night Garden things, Wiggles, and so on, but never any Bratz dolls.

The court order looks stupid. If Hasbro sued for GI Joe look-alikes, copies, they'd never have to sell another product.

As fro Bratz, good riddance. I think there's a 'music' group that's modelled after them. The people they found are freakishly over-made-up, tanned, short and puny... In short, they look like dolls. **shudders**

I believe there was some underlying problem due to previous mattel employees starting up the Bratz line, or some sort of licensing issue that game into play. This one was a long time in the making.

edit: Yup, here you go:

In 2006, Mattel sued MGA Entertainment alleging Bratz designer Carter Bryant was working for Mattel when the dolls were created, and, in 2008, a federal jury ruled in Mattel's favor.

I am really not a big fan of company's saying that since you work for them any ideas you have are now theirs. There is something wrong with a country that encourages this and enforces it.

I think they look stupid as hell, but the circumstances for them being pulled was complete bullshit.

Time to grab some of them to store for future ebaying 🙂

There's a few MILLION of them in the world at this point in time. I don't see them gaining value in the next decade.

If I remember correctly the guy pitched the idea to Mattel and they didn't go for it so he got backing else where and produced them.

The law suit is saying because he developed them while working for them, it is their product.

As I just said. There is something wrong with this.

I dunno, with the economy the way it is, they might be a better investment than stocks.

Point taken. Can you see us in 2010? "Yeah, I'll trade you this Bratz doll for 3 loaves of bread, a gallon of milk and a dozen eggs..."

Nooo... I was so looking forward to the Bratz movie sequel!

If he developed it as a R&D type of thing while on the clock at Mattel, then Mattel owns it as they paid for his time to design such a thing. If he was a Mattel employee that developed it on his own time, then I think it should be his.
