That's the land border. Airlines never really stopped much. And still those are still lot of people coming in regardless. If we had done like New Zealand we would probably not still be in this mess. Island or not does not really matter if you shut down land border and airlines it would greatly minimize the number of people coming in or out. It won't stop them all but it would stop the majority. Too late at this point though. We already have most of the variants and community spread of those variants at this point. The quarantine hotels are a joke too, not only did it happen too late, but the fine for not going is cheaper than what the hotel costs so most people rightfully so, just take the fine. The hotels should at very least be a normal hotel rate instead of a price gouging rate.

No, that's for all points of entry, you cannot enter Canada as a tourist, the only foreigners that are getting in are essential workers who are being tested at the border and then still have to quarantine for 14 days. If you want to blame anyone blame the fucking Canadians that are traveling abroad and coming back, skipping the quarantine. Sigh, who can enter Canada is the same whether you fly in or cross at land border. You have to show proof of negative test either way. The diff is land crossing you don't have to stay at quarentine hotel if you cross at land border.

It was not always this way though, the quarantine hotels are rather recent and like I said, it's cheaper to pay than fine than to go to the hotel. The whole setup is a mess. They should have actually shut it down completely instead. Only allow truck drivers through so they can keep supplies going in/out. Either way we have tons of variants now so clearly whatever it is they are doing is not working.

Why are they even allowed to do that? That's kind of my point. That stuff should have been blocked from the very start. Immigrants are not the ONLY problem only part of it (not really their fault more the fault of Trudeau for allowing it), there is lot of Canadians traveling too.

I'm not sure if it's a federal or provincial issue or if it's something they need to work together on (which i think it is) and you are correct, we should have really limited travel, but there's that pesky Canadian Charter of rights and they aren't keen on challenging things during a pandemic...

Canada has been closed to foreign tourists since like the beginning of this pandemic. And Canada requires PCR covid test to reenter for Canadian residents while US only requires cheaper and less reliable antigen test.

I am done with masks where they are not required. Up here we have some of the best vaccination rates in the country, and I live in the more liberal areas of this state, which means it's even higher. Around me we actually do have herd immunity.

I will wear them in Ubers and in mass transit situations like buses and trains, but not elsewhere. If a business requires it, I will definitely respect their wishes gladly and never cause a fuss about it. I appreciate their concern and it's a really small inconvenience.

Same here! Just hit full vaccination last Friday, and it's been nice to have the option of going maskless some places.

And it seems they were fine with violating the right of assembly by saying we can't see our families etc, just so that travelers can continue to travel. Actually in a way that could even fall under mobility rights, because I should be allowed to go "travel" to a family's house to go visit them. Makes no sense that you can be charged for talking to somebody in a parking lot or being in someone else's car or house (this has been happening a lot in my city) but yet you can go on a plane full of people.

Hotel rooms I don't mind paying extra for a nice suite. It's nice, open, wide... but something about cruise ships and how DESPERATELY close the rooms are to eachother makes me want to stay the fuck out of there as much as humanly possible.

And yeah, the fucking bathrooms are the equivalency of a porta-potty. Actually scratch that - I've seen porta-pottys with more standing room.
