I'm getting tested at 130pm pst today. No real symptoms, but I've had a cough since Jan. due to almonds blooming. Seems to have gotten a little worse since I returned to work, and I actually stopped taking allergy meds since I've returned, so I'm about 98% sure it's just that. More curious than anything. We'll see how it goes.
I just scheduled an appointment for next week. I need to get my hair cut and I figure I should test first.

Nasal swab wasn't too bad. Kinda reminded me of my college days when I was shooting coke and crank lol. The lady said I should get results within 48-72 hrs so at least it'll be somewhat a quick turnaround.

Hope you are negative. I am day 10 sick with covid19. I haven't had it too bad compared to others, but I am taking every precaution I can take to ensure i make it out of this OK.

Get well soon. Any idea where you contracted it?

Get better soon! I’m obviously hoping I don’t have it considering I’m diabetic. I’ll know by Saturday. My town just got put on the list for having more than 5 active cases. We have 6 so far.

Some detail on the Moderna vaccine phase 3 starting in July.

100 microgram dose selected, two jabs 28 days apart. Kind of surprised they think they can get 500M-1B doses manufactured by end of year even with Lonza pulling out all the stops.

It could be that the mRNA vaccine is easier to manufacturer in mass compared with other vaccine technologies

That's my assumption but, IIRC, even then it was expected that only about 100M doses would be available by end of year even after Moderna tied up with Lonza. I guess some production capacity improvements are underway.

I'd imagine that has something to do with the loosening of the stay at home orders and the recent protests.

The powder keg is gonna blow this month, i think the protests alone are gonna encourage a insane uptick. I am buckled in cause its gonna be insane soon i think, i can't imagine the protests doing nothing to NOT spread Covid. Also it would be the perfect karma if you sat up in a street honoring a dead person by being destructive.

There seems to be consensus that there will be some uptick but how severe it will be is an unanswered question. The vast majority of protesters were masked and they were outside so those are likely to be mitigating factors. Covid clusters have generally stemmed from close quarters indoor locations (churches, bars, hospitals, workplaces, etc). I'm sure a bunch of scientists are watching with interest to see what happens.

I did note that basically no cops wore masks though. The police generally seem to refuse all public health guidance which isn't great TBH.

I know i am watching, honestly i think the dawn of a new age is here. I call it the " who gives a fuck" cause honestly when i see groups of unmasked people during a pandemic, that is the only conclusion i can assume they came to to make such a decision.

This thing could be as fake as Pamela Andersons tits and i would still wear a mask and practice social distancing, to set a good example and why take the chance anyways? People can be disgusting, i might make mask usage a perm thing even when this thing blows over.

Mask usage here seems to continue declining among the general public.

Still pretty high the few places I go here in Austin. 95% plus at the hardware store last time. Grocery store won't let you in without one. People waiting for takeout all wearing them when I've gone out to get something. People in the parks without them but there is lots of room. Even the major liquor store chain is pretty hardcore still only allowing one person per party in and they've got the be masked plus requiring people to use the distance markers they've got on the floor.

I hear much different things about some of the outer suburban areas where apparently people are going out like the virus doesn't exist.

I overheard my contractor talking to (presumably) a friend on the phone (not hard to overhear, he was doing the "let's yell through the speakerphone" thing that people love to do) and he was talking about "this distancing bullshit".

There are precious few stores here that require mask usage, I was surprised the hippie grocery store didn't but the Blick art supply next door did.

I wouldn't. It's bad for your immune system to isolate when you don't need to. It can lead to overstimulation when you do get a virus, bacteria, fungus, etc.

The opposition to masks makes little sense to me. It is the absolute least inconvenient intervention everybody can take.

America: Not even willing to do the bare minimum without a lot of nagging.

Loose lips sink ships, i am curious about the aftermath of this story. Don't leave me on a cliffhanger please :p

Given people generally seem to take a month to recover (or die) from the virus (though, in fact, over 40 Diamond Princess passengers are still ill after 3 months), if a snapshot reveals only a 2.5% infection rate after 3 months, are you really suggesting it's likely that it's gone through 60% of the population in that preceding 3 months?

How would that work, mathematically?
If immunity were conferred to 60% we'd know, the epidemic would be practically over, at least in that region. We really do need reliable antibody testing... well, I do! If I'm immune I want to know, it would change my current life style DRASTICALLY.

As I posted in P&N, reaching herd immunity levels is not some magical bullet to stopping this pandemic and is actually a pretty horrific policy to pursue as scores more would have to be infected and potentially die.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/01/opinion/sunday/coronavirus-herd-immunity.html
Unless it's achieved by a combination of vaccine and recovered infections, which is likely to be what happens.
