Does anyone happen to know why the # of cases in US dropped from 29 to 15? I thought I heard there were 14 cases specifically in Nebraska (something to do with the Japan cruise ship I believe) which is how it jumped to 29, but the tracking site reverted back down to 15 yesterday, even though it was showing 29 for some days prior.

There also seems to be some confusion on how they are tracking the Diamond Princess people. Looks like now they are being kept in their own category separate from any country.

"Wartime" measures have been implemented in some parts of the Chinese province of Hubei, which is home to Wuhan — the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak. Some residents have been barred from leaving their apartments, and officials in protective suits were going door-to-door in Wuhan this week looking for infected people.

We ran into our first shortage today. Couldn't get an A/C compressor because they make them in China and they are out of stock. Going to get real interesting soon.

The Johns Hopkins tracker has a lot of issues and will often report erroneous numbers for a bit until they are ultimately corrected.

I would advise going HERE to get the most accurate and up-to-date numbers. Even the Wikipedia page is more reliable than the Johns Hopkins thing.

Thanks for the other site... I was thinking checking multiple would help give a better idea.

I thought that might be the case as well.

For the third day in a row, this was the largest uptick in new cases outside of China. South Korea is currently the primary driver, but other areas are picking up as well. Iran supposedly has a much bigger problem than they are admitting.

A new case was reported in California today. Another person connected to them is also showing symptoms and will be tested soon. No idea how exposed these people were prior to being treated.

I've got bad news for you:

Top 10 products China manufactures most in the world
No 2 Air conditioners
China makes 80 percent of the world's air conditioners - that's 109 billion annually. Per capita production is 17 times the average of other parts of the world.

I just had my furnace blower burn out and get replaced a few months ago, so hopefully I'll be good for at least the next several years. Time to bring those HVAC hardware jobs back to North America again.

The necessity of indefinite quarantine for some "recovered" patients doesn't sound like good news either: Recovered patients may still be infectious
In a grim assessment, a key Chinese respiratory disease expert described the situation of the epidemic as a “see-saw battle”, despite the drop in daily recorded cases in recent days.

Zhao told the magazine Southern People Weekly there were cases in China in which recovered patients continued to show traces of the virus through nucleic acid tests. There were similar results in Canada, where nose and throat swabs taken from a couple who had recovered from Covid-19 revealed they still had traces of the virus.

“We also have such cases. This is dangerous. Where do you put these patients? You can't send them home because they might infect others, but you can't put them in hospital as resources are stretched,” he said.

It's the littlest of bugs that will wipe out the human parasite.

And the meek shall inherit the Earth ....

It's not going to wipe us out. The lethality rate is, what, 3%? But it does look like it might cause a lot of deaths and a lot of economic and political mayhem. I do wonder whether the media and the 'authorities' are giving it the priority it merits. It's making me nervous, that's for sure.

So far.

But if you believe the Tin Foil Hat Brigade, it seems to be mutating and has the ability to 'strike back' after the patient has recovered, maybe even stronger

I'm beginning to believe people are gravely underestimating this thing. A 2% mortality rate for an extremely virulent disease with no vaccine or effective treatment will not only kill massive amounts of people, but it will also have drastic social and economic effects.

Not good for Iran. In one day it goes from no news to four people dead and 18 confirmed cases. Looks like Iran intentionally ignored looking for coronavirus cases, or they were suppressing information of those infected, in order to keep their people and the Chinese government happy. If four died already there are likely many dozens, if not hundreds, infected across the country. Oh, and it is election day in Iran today so thousands of people will be gathering in close proximity without face masks and touching the same items at the polls over and over again.

13 more coronavirus cases confirmed in Iran, two new deaths ahead of elections

The majority of the cases in Iran have been in the city of Qom, a Shi’ite Muslim holy city, where seven cases were found. Qom is 75 miles south of Tehran, the nation’s capital, where health officials also found four cases. The other two new cases are in Gilan province.

“It’s possible that it exists in all cities in Iran,” health ministry official Minou Mohrez said, according to IRNA.

The Iranian government has resorted to cancelled religious events in Qom in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.

“According to existing reports, the corona virus transmission from Qom has started and due to the traffic of people now traveling to many cities of the country including Tehran, Babol, Arak, Isfahan, Rasht and Other cities have arrived and may exist in all Iranian cities. Therefore, public care and education is a serious necessity for controlling the disease and the public education campaign in the country's media must be seriously formed,” Mohrez said.

According to this story it may have started with a Chinese worker:
Minoo Mohraz, an Iranian health ministry official, said the virus “possibly came from Chinese workers who work in Qom and traveled to China.” She did not elaborate. A Chinese company has been building a solar power plant in Qom.

Yes, you are right, this is not some humanity-ending scourge.

It looks like Iran and Italy are now experiencing legitimate outbreaks.

Taiwan is saying that someone in Wuhan just got reinfected after recovery.

Looks like China may be getting ready for long-term quarantine of the infected, even if they've "recovered" and test negative:

CNN gained rare access to a field hospital in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, which reveals the dire conditions there. Some residents say they have recovered but they are still forced into the facility.

China's Wuhan to build 19 more makeshift hospitals

It looks like Iran and Italy are now experiencing legitimate outbreaks.

Yep, bad for Italy (bring your translator).

THE COMMISSIONER: STAY AT HOME. 250 PEOPLE IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT

Insulation measures in 10 municipalities in the Lodi area
"We are preparing an ordinance that prohibits all aggregation activities in 10 municipalities in the Lodigiano area". This was stated by the Lombardy Region Welfare Councilor, Giulio Gallera during the press conference currently underway. For a week people will stay indoors. Among the municipalities concerned Codogno, Casalpusterlengo, Maleo, Fombio, Somaglia,Castiglione d'Adda, Bertonico, Castelgerundo, Terranova dei Passerini.

Of the 250 placed in isolation, 149 are nurses , doctors, family members and people who came into direct contact with the 38-year-old hospitalized in Codogno. Then there are the employees who work in his company and have had direct contact with him. "We are focusing - added Maria Gramegna, of the general management Welfare - even those with whom he had played sports in the previous days ".

Especially when it's a blog written by someone who claims "I was provided with certain operations and probes (placed within my brain). This enables me to alter my reality; my world-line."

See, just reading titles can not only help you to effectively avoid reading garbage, it also provides a rather accurate assessment of the type of wacko that cobbles together such garbage!

I'm banking on all that disease I caught in college will wipe Coronavirus out if it gets anywhere near my bloodstream. The irony there is that my wang may have saved me from the Chinese.

So STDs>vaccines? If so, the CDC should be informed ASAP.

It is true though that when reading some news reports I get reminded of the openning montage sequence you see in any number of post-apocalpyse movies.

Not an apocalypse, sure, but to be honest I have little tolerance these days for even 'mild inconvenience'. If people around me start dying, and chunks of the economy start shutting down for periods I will be....miffed...no, make that 'upset'.

I've found my new favourite emoticon

Don't you wish it was that easy? Seriously though. I'm aware of how germs work and was on ATOT in college so you should know I'm a liar.

I'm heading to Hawaii in a few weeks and will be staying in a hotel next to where a Japanese man stayed that had the virus a few weeks ago. Luckily, he wasn't showing symptoms and most people have been contacted around the area and made aware of the risk.
