Can anyone recommend a good NON-SLI motherboard? I'm not going to OC either, just looking for a reliable system good for multitasking (ie, burning dvd while surfing the web, and editing pictures for printing, and playign mp3 all at once)?

My other selections are

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
eVGA 6600GT pci-e 16x
1GB corsair XMS DDR400
WD800JD 80GB 7200rmp HD
Seasonic S12-430

the rest of the components are being salvaged from old Athlon XP system, a couple more old HDs and a couple of optical drives, sound card, case...
Thanks!

Newegg sells the Chaintech vnf4 for only $54.95. Check the features, and decide for yourself. You might also consider the dual core 3800 if you do mostly multitasking.

i highly reccomend the asus a8n-e motherboard.ive owned a total of 4 ultra boards and this board is by far the best in my opinion.the abit had bios problems and the layout was not the best.the gigabyte was ok but the ram slots are too close together if you use heatspredders and the heatsink on the chipset gets so hot it scares me,you could fry eggs on it,layout was good.the chaintech was ok only.i didnt like the layout, power connector and its a small board, kinda cramped.didnt o/clock well at all.
the asus is in my opinion the best all around ultra board.rock solid stability,o/clocks well, layout is perfect.the only other board i want for a second rig mainly to play with and learn more would be the dfi ultra d,or the expert board.but my use of the a8n-e has been flawless.its got all you need and if not spend 10 bucks and buy a firewire card.well good luck on your choise, and let us know which you went with........................

I would suggest you pick MSI, ASUS , DFI , GigaByte or any other brand you like. The difficult decision is chosing a good MB and hope the same problems that other user have posted DOESN'T happen to you. I read a some users recommend A8N-E but there are few complaints about RAM issue and chipset fan issue. Maybe you want chose DFI and see how it run on your build.

I haven't had any issues with my Epox 9NPA+ Ultra. You'll find a lot of people happily running this board.

The Epox ultra is good. The DFI Lanparty is good. Of course my preference is the ASUS A8N-E. :)

I ended up with the Asus Sli Premium. I thought about all those other boards the A8N-e, the Epox ultra, the DFI Lanparty, and the MSI and ended up with the Asus SLI Premium. They are all good boards, and they all seem to have some flaws, so I picked the brand that I had previously.
I'm crossing my fingers that they'll arrive tomorrow, I ordered late last night. Will see how everything turn out when I put it together this weekend.
Thank you all for your help.
