Non-reporting extender for Canon?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a non-reporting extender compatible with a Canon mount? I'm using a T2i currently, and a 400mm 5.6L lens. If I used a regular extender, I'd lose autofocus, since anything above F4.0 loses autofocus with an extender (at least in the Canon line). Anyone have experience with this? I had heard about non-reporting (or something like that) extenders, that let you use them without losing the autofocus feature. I really need AF still since I'm shooting rapidly moving birds/wildlife and don't have time for manual shots about 40-50% of the time.

Well yes, I know that, that's why I'm asking about a non-reporting teleconverter...basically it doesn't tell the camera it's on there.

You can buy older non reporting extenders (lacks the reporting pins) from Kenko or Tamron that will let the camera bodies AF at smaller aperture than f5.6 as long as there is enough light for it to function albeit at much slower AF. However, taping 3 pins on the extender will also allows the camera to function as a non reporting extender.

I never knew that...so you just buy a regular one and then tape em...hmmm THANKS!
