Non-religious 'peace mission' with free travel?

I want to travel.. bottom line. I work in an office.. in front of a computer 80% of the time. The rest of the time, I'm in an industrial plant that is loud and unpleasant.

I want a vacation - but the kind of vacation that makes me look forward to my comfortable air-conditioned office..

For example, missionary trips seem really interesting to me.. But, I'm not really religious and I don't like the idea of a religious trip. I would very much like to help people.

It needs to be 1 to 2 weeks long - can't take off work longer. Ideally, I'd go to Africa - but anywhere 'warm and vacationlike' is fine. However, I don't mind working - nothing more than ~60 hours/week, though.. And, it needs to be labor intensive - I don't wanna go on a trip just to be asked to fix computers all day.

I'm looking for adventure.. maybe it can be a little dangerous - I'm single, no kids, and young..

Any suggestions?

build houses in New Orleans or Bulixi, they could really use the help and its warm and vacation-like down there.

I looked into this a while ago. It seems expensive unless you get involved in some long-term project like the Peace Corp.

$1500 to fly anywhere interesting and they usually charge you $500-3000 for work.

Yep. The volunteer programs cost money. Plus you pay your own airfare to get there.

I imagine these volunteer programs are just a way to get money into these groups. The foreigners they bring in: don't speak the language, aren't there long enough to get experienced, and take some effort to take care of. It would be easier just to use cheap local labor.

Break the law and enter a work release program.

Break the law, enter a work release program, make bail.
